Christopher Mayer, PhD

Dr. Mayer earned a PhD in economics from MIT, and serves as Paul Milstein Professor of Real Estate at Columbia Business School. He has been with Longbridge Financial since its founding in 2012—first as Chief Credit Officer, and later taking over as CEO in 2013. Previously, Dr. Mayer served as Senior Vice Dean and Director of the Milstein Center for Real Estate at Columbia, and has held positions at the Wharton School and the Federal Reserve. He has spent more than 20 years writing on housing and mortgages, with funding from sources such as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and publications in the top economic journals. He testified six times before the U.S. Congress during the financial crisis and frequently appears in the media—with appearances in The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, among other outlets. Chris is committed to bringing the strategic value of reverse mortgages to today’s older Americans, with a responsible approach that helps ensure a more secure retirement.
